On April 13, Breaking News | North Korea launched a ballistic missile, causing fear in Japan where residents were warned to take cover. The missile flew about 1,000 km and South Korea called it a "grave provocation". However, Japanese authorities retracted the alert for Hokkaido island when they determined that the missile would not fall nearby.

The United States "strongly condemned North Korea for its test of a long-range ballistic missile," the White House said in a statement. Japan's defence minister said the missile appeared to have been fired eastward at a high angle and it did not fall in Japanese territory. The projectile fell in the sea to the east of North Korea.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called for strengthening war deterrence in a "more practical and offensive" manner to counter what North Korea called moves of aggression by the United States. While condemning the missile test, the United States renewed its offer to open talks.

North Korea has been working to build more solid-fuel missiles, which are easier to store and transport, and can be launched with almost no warning or preparation time. The missile was fired at 7:23 a.m. from near Pyongyang, and the South Korean military said it was on high alert and coordinating closely with the United States.

Global Growth Challenge

Ibrahim boran |  Unsplash The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has revised its global growth forecasts lower, citing various factors such as the ongoing war in Ukraine, growing geoeconomic fragmentation, and tight policy stances required to bring down inflation. Additionally, the IMF report mentioned increased uncertainty due to recent financial sector turmoil. The GDP growth projections for major economies such as the US, China, India, Japan, and the Euro Area have also been adjusted accordingly. While global inflation is expected to decrease this year, core CPI is likely to decline more slowly. The Outcome: The revised global growth forecasts by the IMF indicate that the world economy may continue to face challenges in the coming years. The ongoing war in Ukraine and growing geoeconomic fragmentation are likely to contribute to this. The recent financial sector turmoil has added to the uncertainty, making it difficult to predict the future economic performance of major economies...

Discovering the Benefits of ACERO for Emergency Response Operations | Tech

Pexels NASA's Advanced Capabilities for Emergency Response Operations (ACERO) project, led by the Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley, California, is using cutting-edge drone and aviation technologies to improve wildland fire coordination and operations. With wildfires becoming an increasingly urgent concern across the United States, containing and responding to these fires requires collaboration among firefighters and ground crews, as well as the coordination of dozens of aircraft operated by multiple government agencies. ACERO's innovative solutions seek to expand the window of time available for aerial suppression operations by safely using drones during periods of heavy smoke or at night when aircraft have limited visibility. By reducing safety risks to pilots and making aerial wildfire operations more effective, ACERO's work with drones is paving the way for more efficient and safer emergency response operations.
